Just One Thing
You spend a lot of effort eliminating distractions and staying laser-focused on your target.
But then there are those times, you get that niggling feeling it is time to move off the trajectory you’re on. It has gotten comfortable, yes. And also, a bit boring and predictable.
But where to begin? In this ongoing pandemic, the possibilities seem at once so limited and abundant, so out of reach, and also endlessly uncertain.
Changing your life can seem overwhelming. There is so much you want to do…where do you even start?
Start with…just change ONE thing.
One tiny little thing can crack open bigger movements in the days ahead.
Pick a possibility, any one, and do one little thing towards that.
Feeling stale in your job? Update your LinkedIn. Refresh your old resume. Check out training for next level skills. This doesn’t mean you have to leave your current job; it is one tiny step towards making you feel more energized.
Feeling out of shape because of stay-at-home directives? Research free on-line workouts, so many interesting choices! Pull out those old boots and crunch your way through some fresh snow. Set up a self-challenge to take a walk at all the parks in your town.
Feeling you need less other-caring and more self-care? Plug in 15 minutes of pleasure reading before bed. Find a fancy bottle or pitcher and fill it with fresh water and slices of lemon, lime, or cucumber to add more hydration to your day. Stare out a window and let your mind wander for a few minutes.
Feeling homebound? Schedule an hour for a research break to scope out local and away destinations. Pull up pictures from your last adventure and relive the experience, getting in touch with the physical sensations you recall. Call a friend you haven’t seen in a while.
You don’t have to tackle the whole enchilada, just make one simple shift.
Changing just one thing you’ve been doing shifts your mind from CAN’T to CAN. Suddenly you are wondering about possibilities that seemed hidden before. What does that one shift open for you? A new idea? A new action? A new relationship?
The best part is…it’s all a big experiment! If you don’t like your new change, you can always go back or try something else.
Have you ever taken a sailboat out to sea? Changing course 1 degree doesn’t seem like such a big shift, but 100 miles later that ship is in completely new waters.
What “one-degree” shift can YOU make TODAY?
There’s open water ahead!
